Back in Lesta

Well hello my dears,
finally a minute to blog for you! Hmm lets sum up this last month quickly and get onto the good stuff...
Got back here, reunited with my girls, got new ikea furniture to add to my little room of goodness, held a breast cancer fundraiser, started doing bikram yoga again, spent the weekend in London(went to the Tate Modern) and started 4 new classes! BUT the best? My wonderful friends surprised me today with an early birthday present- a trip to GREECE!!!!!!!! We will be going to Athens the weekend before my actual birthday- all 8 of us! (so far) I'm such a lucky girl to have those kids in my life.

Now for some of my recent finds:

** from Because I'm Addicted:

Yes please!

Geronimo just bought this Zara clutch- jealous

Love the sequins blazer

I love it all- especially that I'm 99% sure it was taken in the gardens outside the Louvre

elbow pads are always awesome.

If I owned an iPad..and had excessive amounts of money to spend on cases- this is one I'd choose

From The Man Repeller:

LOVE.

From This is Glamourous:

I obviously have a chair thing.

I can almost tell how soft those would be.

Sigh.

I actually sighed when I saw this- so glam.

This is totally how I look while travelling- oh wait not at all.

Big windows. leopard print chair.

From Glamorous Side Project:

A new bad hair day trick?

From Zara Man:

Even without the yellow vest I quite like this look.

Through Cup of Jo, I stumbled upon The Color Issue- and it's amazing! Look at this- and the site!
So breathtaking.

Found this while looking for new music.
Going to try to make these and these on friday when I introduce the girls to my favourite movie of life- Moulin Rouge! (oh carr and flan I know you will roll your eyes- but you know I will stay awake!)

Time to read about land law now,

Okay I could copy everything and show you these amazing living rooms- or I can tell you to go here and see them all nicely put together by Because I'm Addicted.

Weekly finds.

When I don't have time to sit down and write a little blog for you, I often borrow a picture- save it under a name that somehow combines where it's from/why I love it and put it in my 'blog' folder. This folder was getting a bit full. have a look.

Another white house I adore.

I wish I could afford to splurge here- because I always love everything...

I'm sure they are terribly uncomfortable, but boy are they beauties.

{via Cup of Joe}

Basically what I look like throughout winter- but somehow she makes it look 'tres chic' where as I look a little more 'I just rolled out of bed'

Below is how I wish mine were...

Just please let me have this as my room. Okay thanks.

If I looked this good- maybe I'd ride one...maybe.

{ via the Sartorialist}

Okay I love how simple this is- yet so phenomenal.
I have a thing for baggy things, bare legs and boots. This is why.

{via Simply Smitten}

I just love this whole colour scheme.
I would love to incorporate this idea somehow into my mishmash room in lesta.

{via Honestly WTF}

I mean come on- how cool are these? So dramatic. Love it.

{via Honestly WTF}

I'm still kicking myself for not buying a colourful clutch from Zara last spring.
I also love the simple brown leather bag.
* Geronimo is this similar to the cover-up you got from there?

Okay that's all I've got for you at the moment. I will try to post a few more times while I procrastinate from packing before I leave. Only 4 more nights in Canada! Looking forward to seeing everyone and getting back to it- but dreading the goodbyes I hate so much.Have a lovely thursday night.

150!

So I just noticed this will be post #150!! Holy cow it's been a little over a year since I started this thing (that's a lot of days off cmac- you might say) but every once in awhile I still feel the thrill of having this little thing. I know sometimes it's superficial and 'these are the things I want' but I do love having this as a place to share- well everything! I expressed my concern to miss carr awhile back about how I never write in a journal anymore- but then I realized this little blog has become my journal of sorts. I mean I'm not writing about boys I have crushes on (except adam levine) and I'm not filling this with juicy gossip like some people's journals may be, but this is just a little glimpse into my mind, my day dreams and my life. So there- you got some real words out of me. Happy 150th post my dears!
Cheers!

BOOKS!

Finally. I keep telling you about the books I love, or want to read, or I'm reading. and I have a big note on my mac saying 'blog idea: book list' that's been there since april. But today- lets do this finally.

I kinda was re-inspired because colt showed me this site called stumbleupon. You put in interests and it gives you page after page of sites that meet those interests. I just started clicking around on it tonight- but one of the first few was this site- look at the 100 books. I counted 23 I've read. And they were mostly sooo good. There are at least ten in there that I planned on reading this summer but failed. I guess I just needed easy reads to let my brain relax. There are also so many that people have told me I needed to read.

Another website I found was Whichbook- I haven't had a chance to look around too much- but if you were in need of some ideas of what to read, it looks like a good place to start.

So here are my lists...

Books I read this summer:

  • The Help
  • Water for Elephants
  • To Kill a Mockingbird
  • half of Jane Eyre (still working on this one)
  • The Hunger Game trilogy
  • currently reading Spirit Junkie
For anyone that hasn't read the help- do it- and actually for once I will say the movie fulfilled my expectations. so no excuse not to read/watch this wonderful story. Water was a sort of fluffy love story- I read it mostly on my plane ride home from the UK- but I still enjoyed it. It's one of those that goes back in forth from past to present- which usually keeps things interesting. I have yet to see the movie- have you seen it- is it worth it? Mockingbird- classic. This has sat on my night stand for years. I have meant to read it since it was assigned in...grade 9? for summer reading. It is not life altering, but I am glad I took the time to read it. Jane Eyre- can't tell you yet but the more I read the more I get used to the old english and wrapped up in the story. Hunger Games- oh boy oh boy read read read! Connor was trying to convince me of this for the past few years- I was always in the middle of another book- but yeah he was so right. Warning: they are addictive and you should probably have all three on hand. They seem to have  become really popular this summer, and for good reason. Now Spirit Junkie- not my usual book- sorta self-helpish and little out there, but after reading an article about it in...vanity fair? elle?... I was intrigued. While in van I spent a little too long in Chapters hunting it down. Katy got the first book, and I got this with the idea that we will trade at christmas. Again- I'll let you know how it goes.

Books I planned on read this summer (but didn't):
  • 100 Years of Solitude
  • Great Expectations
  • Gone With the Wind
  • The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
  • Lolita
  • The Scarlet Letter
  • Emma
Now for some recommendations:
  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series
  • The Handmaid's Tale
  • The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time
  • The Time Traveller's Wife
  • The Kite Runner & A Thousand Splendid Suns
  • One Day (I already wrote a post about this)
  • The Gargoyle
  • The Passage
...and so many more!
I think I will sum this up now, but hope some of these spark your interest. And of course if you have other reading suggestions- pass them on!

Boys boys boys.

Ha did you think I was going to talk about my (lack of) love life? WRONG!
Today I was inspired by a) a little talk with geronimo and b) the sartorialist obviously. Over the long weekend I may or may not have made a drunken comment about a guy that needs to update his look. For guys style I feel like there are a few simple rules.

1) Once you are out of high school- board shorts no longer are allowed for daily wearing. If you aren't at the beach/boat/shortly entering water- no boardshorts. You are not a california surfer (unless you are- in which case you just keep on wearing them).

2) Same goes for sweatpants. Those are for lazy nights/days when you aren't planning on leaving the house. Or maybe just maybe to/from the gym. But really there are so many better options. I understand if lulu isn't your style, but you don't have to go far to look just a little more put together.

3) Wear some nice shoes. I am fully aware that mens shoes can be expensive- and crazily heavy sometimes- but shoes are what really help pull an outfit together. I'm not saying you need to walk around in pointy toed bejewelled boots to look good- but scuffed up runners don't cut it. Maybe because the boys in my family are shoe snobs, or maybe because I just love shoes- whether they are on boys or girls-  this has really become key when thinking about guy's style.

4) If you bum is not inside your pants- they aren't pants. They are just weird leg dangly things. For the most part, this isn't a huge issue anymore. thank god.

5) Baggy vs Tight. Shirts should not be too extreme either way. If it's too big it either makes you look too small or too large. never good. If it's too tight- same goes.

6) Dressing well doesn't make people question your sexuality. This is such a common excuse guys use- and it kinda makes me want to barf. Whatever your preference- dressing well makes you more attractive. Does that sound materialistic? I don't mean it to- this isn't about spending loads of money on designer things because you will look better- it's about knowing what you need to make your whole look come together.

Having a dad who is hugely into fashion- and three brothers that each have a distinct style- I know these aren't hard rules to live by. Some of my favourite pictures of men with great style come from The Sartorialist- this link goes right to pages and pages of men that dress well. Some won't work for you- not a scarf guy? that's cool. Not going to realistically wear a suit daily? also fine. But take a look. Scott- who takes these pictures travels all over the world, is hugely famous- and most importantly knowns what he's talking about. Don't be thrown off by so odd outfits- do you really think women love everything they see  all the time? no. So have a peek. Here are some that I like..

Mish Mash

Hello hello,

I know I've been terrible lately. But how about a big mashup of things that have happened? Okay cool.

On a whim I went for a little road trip to Cali. Here are some pictures (more to come I hope- but sadly there weren't many) I helped Sami get down there - to live- and now to be a part of a wicked crew GRV. So proud!

Lots of driving.

Night out in Portland.
Dixie. What a place.

these dancers on the bar- scary.

Stopped at Wildlife Safari.

Californiaaaa

San Fran- touristy shots after motel hell.

Bubba Gumps.

And around sanfran I stopped pulling out my camera sadly. But the next few days were spent staying with the family sam nannies for- playing lazer tag, shopping, getting pedicures..

Next on the list of activities: Popsicles. Remember when I told you I was gonna make em? I did! But I forgot to put up the pictures- so here they are...

1. Cut watermelon in two :)

2. Chop the red juicy part up into small cubes. Throw into blender with a little sugar. Strain to get rid of seeds.

3. make silly faces.

4. Carefully cut out the light green part from the shell. Blend separately with a little sugar and lime juice.

(to make it look extra 'green' I added a little food colouring!)

5. Put your mixes into containers with a spout for easy pouring.
* pour the red part- let freeze for at least an hour- then add the green. On the left you can see I got a little excited with the green part...

Food colouring always ends up all over my hands.

Finished product
{note: these were the last two! Everyone scooped them up}

What else? I am currently in Victoria! After a night spent in Vancouver with the fambam for some serious shopping, we all headed over to here to get Con all set up at UVic! I'm so proud of him (obviously) and so excited for him...but also a little sad to see him so grown up and independent. But I know he will have a fantastic year! I stayed here longer to spend time with him and flan, and will head back to vancouver for the weekend with carr- then monday: M5!!!! I can hardly wait to see my adam. yes he is mine.

I have been taking lots of pictures lately- but all on my iphone. I am newly addicted to Instagram- get it. Add me: cmacrae. It's nice to use my iphone camera for something- and get to see everyone else's little creations. Perhaps I will upload some of them on here if I feel like I need to share.

Hope that holds you over until another urge to blog comes about. I promise to be better once I'm actually away again- but lately I have either been with most of you or talked to you, so not much updating is necessary. right?
